PM Update: Rain to start before dawn, turning steadier and heavier Sunday

A dynamic storm is forecasted to cause heavy rain and subsequent flooding in Washington D.C. on Sunday afternoon and into the night. Showers, breezes, and rain are expected to start by the pre-dawn hours, with more intense downpours in the afternoon and evening. There is also a possibility of thunderstorms, severe wind gusts, and even snowflakes or a wintry mix near and after midnight, particularly in the Blue Ridge and Interstate 81 corridor. The Capital Weather Gang team is also monitoring the potential for wind damage, as gusts could reach up to 30 mph.
