Plane makes forced landing, catches fire on N.C. interstate, officials say

A plane was forced to make an emergency landing on Interstate 26 in North Carolina, causing a fire and significant traffic delays. Two people were taken to the hospital following the incident, the cause of which is still unclear. Areas including the WLOS newsroom experienced power surges and outages, leaving 3,300 Duke Energy customers without electricity, although this had reduced to three customers by 9:15. Due to the incident, westbound I-26 will remain closed indefinitely, with a detour in place. Various emergency services, including Skyland Fire and Rescue and the Asheville Police Department, attended the scene.
