Pentagon: US arms industry struggling to keep up with China

The US Department of Defense (DoD) has highlighted the inability of traditional defense contractors to respond rapidly and flexibly in a modern conflict. A document dated November 27 indicates a growing strategic risk due to America’s slow weapon production rate, particularly in the face of advanced threats in the Indo-Pacific region. The Pentagon hopes to establish a stronger partnership with the industry and expand production capacity, including investing in smaller businesses and focusing on innovation. The report also acknowledges the need for more diverse entrants, including foreign and domestic businesses with no previous defense production experience. However, critics argue that the draft report lacks concrete recommendations and doesn’t address long-term supply chain issues.
