Pentagon didn’t inform Biden, White House for days about Austin’s hospitalization

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was hospitalized following an elective procedure, but the information was not made public until several days later. This has caused outrage among the press, Pentagon, and Congress due to the delay in disclosure. The Pentagon Press Association stated that the public has a right to know when US cabinet members are hospitalized. Austin, known for his privacy, has received criticism for the secrecy, including from Sen. Tom Cotton and former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. Even though his hospitalization took place during a tumultuous time for the military, Austin is still seen as a key figure in maintaining Western support for delivering weapons to Ukraine.
