Penn president resigns after antisemitism criticism
The University of Pennsylvania’s president, Liz Magill, has resigned amid pressure from donors and criticism over her inability to affirm that calls for the genocide of Jews would violate the university’s conduct policy during a congressional hearing on antisemitism on college campuses. Magill’s departure was announced by the school and she will remain a tenured faculty member at the Carey Law School. U.S. universities have been accused of not protecting Jewish students amid global antisemitism fears and fallout from Israel’s war in Gaza. One notable criticism came from donor Ross Stevens, who threatened to withdraw a $100 million gift due to the university’s “stance on antisemitism on campus” unless Magill was replaced.
