Patrick McHenry, Former Interim Speaker, Will Leave Congress

Representative Patrick T. McHenry, the former interim speaker of the House and current chairman of the Financial Services Committee, has announced his decision to leave Congress at the end of his term. This adds to the increasing number of lawmakers who will be departing the House and Senate, contributing to the ongoing dysfunction in Capitol Hill. McHenry’s departure will not significantly affect the race for control of the House, as his seat resides in a staunchly Republican district. Kevin McCarthy, California Republican and McHenry’s close ally, is also expected to announce his decision to not seek re-election soon. Despite the recent wave of exits, McHenry remains optimistic about the future of the institution.
