Palisades Tahoe avalanche survivor describes being buried in snow

Jason Parker, a 52-year-old man, survived an avalanche at Palisades Tahoe, crediting his rescue to locals on the mountain, including a snowboarder named Luke. Parker, who was buried in snow for up to eight minutes, was skiing down the steep GS bowl area when he was hit by the first wave of the avalanche. Despite his 35 years of skiing experience and avalanche training, Parker emphasizes the importance of preparation when skiing and advocates for the use of beacons to improve rescue times. After being rescued, Parker found his fiancée, who was unharmed, and they continued skiing down the hill. He hopes to reconnect with his rescuer, Luke.
