Over 1,500 vehicles participating in street takeover close busy area in North Haven – NBC Connecticut

Over 1,500 vehicles from multiple states participated in a street takeover on Universal Drive in North Haven, causing traffic congestion and stranding holiday shoppers. The event led to the closure of both directions of Interstate 91, which was backed up for over a mile. Police from several departments, including Meriden, Wallingford, Hamden, West Haven, Branford, along with Connecticut State Police troopers, assisted North Haven police during the incident. The police also struggled to respond to several calls, including a medical emergency and an assault. There was a similar attempted street takeover in Shelton, but the vehicles were dispersed by police. The investigation into these incidents is ongoing.
