The incident, which occurred on Catherine Simmons Avenue near Beatties Ford Road, was prompted by reports of two people fighting, with at least one participant actively shooting. Officers at the scene engaged with a man wielding a firearm, and when the man raised his weapon towards them, they fired multiple shots. The suspect retreated into a nearby home and was later pronounced dead. The case is being investigated by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations.
