On Jan. 6 Anniversary, Trump Repeats Lie That 2020 Election Was Stolen

On the third anniversary of the Capitol storming, former US president Donald Trump addressed crowds in Iowa, referring to the individuals imprisoned for their involvement in the attack as “hostages” and called for their release. Over 1,200 people have been arrested in relation to the Capitol attack, with 170 convicted and over 700 pleading guilty. Trump also used the event to criticize current President Joseph Biden’s policies and dismiss allegations of his own anti-democratic behavior. Despite facing criminal charges related to his attempts to overturn the 2020 election, Trump continued to allege that the election was stolen from him. Attendees at the event echoed Trump’s sentiments, downplaying the severity of the Capitol attack and dismissing the investigations into it.
