NYPD Investigates Guardian Angels Attack on Man Misidentified as Migrant

The New York police and the Manhattan district attorney are investigating an incident in Times Square involving members of the Guardian Angels, an anti-crime organization. The group’s leader, Curtis Sliwa, incorrectly identified a man as a migrant during a live interview on Fox News, leading to a physical altercation. The man, who is actually a Bronx resident, was wrongfully accused of shoplifting. The incident has raised fears of vigilantism against immigrants. State officials, including Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams, have faced increasing pressure amidst the ongoing immigration debate. Curtis Sliwa later apologized for his mistake, but maintained that the man had assaulted a female member of the Guardian Angels.
