NYC lawsuit seeks $708 million for bussing migrants from Texas

New York City has filed a lawsuit against 17 charter bus and transportation companies for transporting migrants from Texas as part of Governor Greg Abbott’s border plan, seeking $708 million in damages. Mayor Eric Adams asserts that these companies have moved tens of thousands of people in the past two years “without paying to care for them,” overwhelming the city’s social services system. The lawsuit follows Governor Abbott’s efforts to send migrants to self-declared sanctuary cities including Washington D.C., New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Denver, and Los Angeles since April 2022. Governor Abbott has dismissed the lawsuit as ‘baseless’. The companies named in the suit, most of which are based in Texas, allegedly profited significantly from this plan.
