NY State of Emergency issues ahead of snow storm

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a State of Emergency due to the upcoming winter storm forecast for Western New York, activating 100 members of the New York National Guard for assistance. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for several counties, where lake effect snow could produce several inches of snow, and a High Wind Warning has been issued for the entire Western New York area. Road crews will pre-treat roads and operate plows, while 11,000 utility crew members are on standby for potential power outages. A ban on tandem trucks on several routes will also begin Saturday morning. The governor’s team is coordinating with local officials, including the Buffalo Bills, for public safety.
