North Korea launches suspected intermediate-range ballistic missile that can reach distant US bases
South Korea, the U.S., and Japan are investigating a suspected North Korean ballistic missile launch. In mid-November, North Korea announced it had successfully tested solid-fuel engines for a new intermediate-range ballistic missile designed to hit U.S. military bases in Okinawa, Japan and Guam. North Korea’s most advanced weapon, the solid-fueled Hwasong-18 intercontinental ballistic missile, is designed to strike mainland U.S. Recently, North Korea escalated warlike rhetoric against its enemies. Experts suggest leader Kim Jong Un may be seeking to gain concessions like sanctions relief if former U.S. President Donald Trump returns to the White House.
