A new facility for Axiom Space opened at Ellington Airport on December 7, 2023, as the next step toward commercialized space flights. Axiom Space plans to use the Spaceport facility as a hub for its efforts to evolve the next-generation space station, with focuses on research, manufacturing, and commerce, as well as space tourism and astronaut training. The first module for astronauts to live in is expected to be completed by 2026. Axiom Space will also be developing new spacesuits for Artemis astronauts at the new facility. There are plans in the future for Axiom Space to ferry paid customers to the new space station in Earth’s low orbit.
