New York Democrats pick Tom Suozzi as their candidate for George Santos’ seat
New York Democrats have chosen former Rep. Tom Suozzi as their nominee for the special election to replace former GOP Rep. George Santos, who was expelled from the House due to ethical misdemeanors. This special election, set for February 13, is predicted to be fiercely contested as Santos was one of 18 Republicans holding a district President Joe Biden won in 2020. Republicans are due to announce their nominee early next week, with over 20 potential candidates being interviewed. Suozzi, who previously represented the 3rd District before an unsuccessful run for governor, has pledged to support abortion rights while maintaining a campaign that will not harm the Democrat party brand.
