New York Democrat suspends campaign for Santos’s former seat, backs Suozzi
Democratic candidate Anna Kaplan ended her campaign for former Rep. George Santos’s (R-N.Y.) seat after the New York Democratic Party chose Tom Suozzi for a special election in February. Kaplan, a former state senator, endorsed Suozzi despite previous statements that his nomination could harm the party’s chances. The seat was vacated by Santos, who was expelled from Congress over corruption and fraud allegations. The special election, scheduled for February 13, is considered a “toss-up” by the Cook Political Report. Despite her campaign ending, Kaplan pledged to remain involved in politics.
