New York court reinstates Trump’s gag orders in civil fraud case

Following initial complaints from Trump’s lawyers about Justice Jennifer Schecter’s law clerk, Rachel Greenfield, Justice Schecter issued a gag order preventing lawyers from discussing any confidential communications between her staff and herself. After the gag order was briefly paused, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to criticise both Greenfield and Schecter. Following the reinstatement of the gag order, Trump targeted Schecter’s family with accusations of anti-Trump sentiment. Schecter’s wife, Dawn Engoron, denied the allegations. Trump’s lawyer, Chris Kise, labelled the appeal court’s decision as a “tragic day for the rule of law”. Trump is also challenging a separate gag order in a federal case related to election interference.
