New reports detail how DeSantis outsourced his campaign to a super PAC

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis extensively outsourced his unsuccessful presidential campaign to the super PAC, Never Back Down, which spent more than four times the amount spent by DeSantis’ campaign in 2023 ($131 million vs $28.2 million). This PAC not only funded advertising but also took on the role of pro-DeSantis organizing efforts on the ground. However, internal conflicts within Never Back Down resulted in the creation of other support groups for DeSantis. DeSantis’ campaign primarily spent its funds on travel and staff rather than ads, reflecting the financial pressures it faced. At the end of 2023, DeSantis’ campaign had $9.7 million left, most of which could only be used for the general election.
