New Orleans winter weather hard freeze

New Orleans and southeast Louisiana are on alert for frigid conditions as a part of the polar vortex breaks off and moves into the region, delivering potentially dangerous wind chills. The arctic intrusion will start on Monday evening, with temperatures plummeting by Monday night, reaching the mid 20s in the coldest areas by Tuesday morning. A hard freeze watch has been issued for the farthest north areas, with temperatures forecast to drop to 25 or below. There is also the risk of wintry precipitation in the form of freezing rain and sleet. Residents are advised to take precautions such as ensuring pipes are safe from freezing and providing adequate heat and shelter for outdoor animals.
