New Hampshire Republicans present 15-Day Abortion Ban
New Hampshire Republicans have proposed an extreme abortion ban that prevents the procedure if the gestational age of the fetus is more than 15 days, except in cases of medical emergencies. The ban, which is one of the most restrictive in the US, does not provide exceptions for cases of rape or incest and includes a felony penalty and a $100,000 fine for any provider who performs an abortion after 15 days’ gestation. Critics argue that the ban is effectively a total prohibition on abortion, as most women do not realize they are pregnant until they miss their menstrual period, typically between four to six weeks. The bill could become law in 2024 if it passes through the state legislature and is signed by the governor.
