Nevada judge attacked by defendant during sentencing in Vegas courtroom

A defendant involved in a felony battery case, Deobra Delone Redden, violently attacked Clark County District Court Judge, Mary Kay Holthus, in Las Vegas. Redden, who was attempting to convince the judge that he was not violent, leaped over the defense table and the judge’s bench, grabbing her hair and sparking a brawl with court officials and attorneys. Redden is currently jailed on $54,000 bail and faces 13 counts including extortion and coercion with force. At the time of the attack, Redden was out of custody as part of a deal with prosecutors. The courtroom marshal was also hospitalized for a gash on his forehead and a dislocated shoulder.
