‘My Best Friend Is Black’ Comedy Show Hits Green Line Performing Arts Center This Weekend

Chicago is a city known for its comedy scene, but it’s also a city where comedy is somewhat segregated, with an invisible line separating the North and South sides dictating how and where people can enjoy a comedy show. A comedy variety show called “My Best Friend Is Black” is helping to bridge that divide, featuring fresh, local Black talent who perform a blend of sketch, improv, and stand-up comedy. The show, now in its third year, has gained a dedicated following and was recently nominated for the Reader’s Best of Chicago Award for Best Comedy Show of 2023. The group is set to perform at the Green Line Performing Arts Center, with both shows sold out. The troupe aims to celebrate Blackness in all its diverse forms with their performances and draw inspiration from other Black comedy collectives.
