Mum furious as school ‘boots girls out of class’ over ‘discriminatory’ uniform policy
Debbie Williams and dozens of students protested outside Yate Academy in South Gloucestershire, calling for an end to a “discriminatory” uniform rule regarding skirt lengths. Williams claimed her daughter has missed hours of classes due to this rule, alleging that the enforcement objectifies girls and is sexist. The school allegedly locked the gates and didn’t allow students wearing skirts that didn’t comply with the rule to enter for classes. An online petition against the policy has garnered over 900 signatures, with the goal to reach 1,000. The school’s uniform supplier, Monkhouse, provides optional red and navy tartan skirts in 22 or 24 inch lengths, which must be “on or below the knee”.
