Multiple fatalities as dangerous winter storm hits much of US | US weather

A severe winter storm swept across the northern US, causing several fatalities and widespread disruption. The storm has led to deadly avalanches, ice-covered roads, and bitter cold temperatures. Authorities reported a man dying from the cold in suburban Chicago and another in Wisconsin while snow-blowing his driveway. US airlines cancelled more than 2,000 flights, and thousands more were delayed. In addition, Michigan residents faced power outages, with over 130,000 customers without electricity. The cold was particularly severe in the Dakotas and Chicago, leading to concerns for the growing population of asylum seekers, with many taking refuge in city-run shelters and warming buses.
