Mother of 6-year-old boy who shot Virginia teacher sentenced to 2 years
Deja Taylor, a Virginia mother, has been sentenced to two years on a state charge of felony child neglect, after her son shot his elementary school teacher. This is in addition to a 21-month federal charge for using marijuana while owning a gun. As part of the sentence, Taylor is not permitted contact with her son until he turns 18. The case has brought national focus to school safety and gun violence, even resulting in the removal of the school’s superintendent and an assistant principal. The teacher who was shot, Abigail Zwerner, has filed a $40 million lawsuit against the school district.
