Mission Bay’s De Anza Cove redo goes to Planning Commission
The San Diego Planning Commission is set to discuss a contentious proposal to convert much of northeast Mission Bay into marshland, camping space, and other uses. This proposal is part of the city’s final efforts to decide the future of the area following a seven-year debate. The redevelopment was triggered by the closure of De Anza Cove mobile home park, which freed up 75 acres of land. Environmentalists and campers have come up against golfers, tennis players and advocates for youth sports. The city has increased the amount of land that would become marshland to help sequester carbon and absorb sea-level rise.
