Missing Marine Corps helicopter headed to San Diego area is located

A Marine Corps helicopter carrying five soldiers went missing during a heavy snowstorm outside San Diego. The CH-53E Super Stallion, the military’s largest helicopter, was located by civilian authorities near the mountain community of Pine Valley, but the snowy conditions were hindering ground access. The Marines were returning to San Diego from Creech Air Force Base, where they had been undergoing unit-level training. At this moment, the condition of the onboard troops remains unknown. The CH-53E Super Stallion, which is designed to operate in harsh conditions, has been involved in past fatal accidents, including a 2018 crash in a similar region that killed four Marines.
