Missing Helicopter Found in California, but Search Continues for 5 Marines

A Marine Corps military helicopter went missing in a snowy and mountainous area east of San Diego, with five Marines onboard. The helicopter was later located in Pine Valley, roughly 44 miles east of San Diego, with authorities still searching for the missing Marines. The aircraft, a CH-53E Super Stallion, was en route from Creech Air Force Base in Nevada to the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego when it was reported overdue. The search for the missing helicopter involved the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the Marines, and Civil Air Patrol teams. The rescue operations were affected by unfavorable weather conditions, including snow and low cloud coverage.
