Marini “was first guy to approach us” to substitute Marquez for MotoGP 2024

Honda has signed a two-year deal with Marini from VR46 to replace Gresini-bound Marquez upon the conclusion of the 2023 season. This move breaks from Honda’s initial approach of only offering a one-year contract, which allowed Miguel Oliveira to remain at the Aprilia satellite team, now taken over by Trackhouse Racing in 2024. Honda is currently making changes to the structure of the team to improve its standings in the constructors’ table after finishing last in 2023. Despite the change in riders, Honda’s priority is to develop their bikes for the next season and beyond.
