Man with knife, hammer wounds 3 people at busy Paris train station Gare de Lyon

A 31-year-old man armed with a knife and a hammer wounded three people in an early morning attack at the Gare de Lyon train station in Paris. The attacker, believed to be from Mali, carried residency papers from Italy and medicines implying psychiatric treatment, and was quickly detained by the police. Paris police chief Laurent Nunez stated that there was no current evidence linking the attack to terrorism. The incident occurred six months before the city is set to host the Summer Olympics, raising concerns about security amid previous Islamic extremist attacks. Paris authorities are preparing to tighten security for the event, deploying tens of thousands of police officers and soldiers.
