Major winter storm to bring ‘ferocious blizzard conditions’ and travel hazards

The National Weather Service has warned of a vast storm system causing severe snow across the US, with up to two inches of snow per hour expected in the central and southern Plains. Over a foot of snow has already fallen in Massachusetts, causing power outages. Blizzard conditions are also expected in the Plains of northeast New Mexico, eastern Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, western Kansas, and southwest Nebraska. The weather service also warned of severe thunderstorms across the central Gulf Coast, with potential for strong winds, tornadoes, and significant flash flooding. Two winter storm systems are also due to pass over the Pacific Northwest, bringing heavy snowfall.
