Major change to energy rules for millions of customers that mean you could be owed cash if things go wrong
Energy regulator Ofgem has announced a major change to rules that could result in many energy customers being owed money. Starting in April, energy companies will be required to speed up the process of moving households over if they switch suppliers, with customers eligible for compensation if they wait longer than five working days. Currently, companies are required to pay households £30 if they are left waiting more than 15 working days to switch. The new rule only applies to households or people who run their businesses from home and are on a domestic energy tariff. A consultation for these changes started in September and has received positive feedback.
