Lawyer Told Trump Defying Documents Subpoena Would Be a Crime

Federal prosecutors subpoenaed classified documents that former President Donald Trump took from the White House to his Florida estate. Trump was informed by his lawyer, Jennifer Little, that non-compliance with the subpoena would constitute a crime. Despite this, Trump has been charged with violating the subpoena and obstructing government efforts to reclaim the classified documents. Little’s testimony to the grand jury that Trump understood her warning could serve as significant evidence of his consciousness of guilt. The case, which accuses Trump of illegal retention of classified documents and subsequent conspiracy to cover up his actions, is set to go to trial in May.
