Jameelah Elena Michl, a 36-year-old homeless woman, has been charged for fatally shooting a man during an alleged attempted robbery in Mid-City, Los Angeles.
The victim, Michael Latt, a 33-year-old philanthropist, was recognized for his significant contributions within the Hollywood circuit. Latt launched the Lead with Love organization in 2019, successfully engaging key figures in the entertainment industry in charitable causes.
According to Deadline, Latt’s family is deeply rooted in the entertainment industry, with his brother holding a prominent position at Creative Artists Agency.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office filed murder and burglary charges against Michl on Wednesday, with an added firearm enhancement. Michl, suspected to be a homeless LA resident, is currently held on a $3 million bail.
The tragic incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Alandele Avenue. Upon arrival, the police discovered Latt, a victim of a shooting by an intruder.
The police reported that Michl remained on the scene until her arrest. Michl was living in her vehicle, which was later confiscated as evidence.
Neighbor Averie Shevin relived the shock of the incident in a talk with Eyewitness News, disclosing that she had seen Michl with her hands up on the street. Shevin also revealed Latt lived with his girlfriend and their pets, and was about to leave for a movie with his mother when the incident occurred.
