L.A. police search for assailant in fatal shootings of homeless people

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has commenced a manhunt for a suspected killer who has allegedly shot three homeless individuals in separate incidents during November 2021. This series of murders comes as a strong blow to Los Angeles’ homeless community, which currently exceeds 46,000 people, with 70% of them living unsheltered on any given night. The LAPD has collected forensic, video, and physical evidence linking the same man to all three crimes, and has increased patrols and overtime in areas where homeless people congregate as a protective measure. Mayor Karen Bass has urged the city’s homeless residents to avoid sleeping alone and seek available services, while outreach workers have been informing those on the streets about the ongoing search for the killer.
