Kona Low to drench Hawaii with heavy rain prompting statewide Flood Watches

The state of Hawaii is experiencing heavy rainfall and occasional strong thunderstorms due to a Kona Low weather pattern. This pattern is triggering concerns about flash floods in the region. The heavy rainfall is expected to continue into the weekend, particularly on the southern-facing windward slopes. This rainfall could bring some relief to the state, which has been facing extreme drought conditions, particularly on the leeward sides of the islands. However, Maui officials are also monitoring the storm for potential flooding in the burn-scar areas of Lahania, a result of deadly fires in August.
