Judge in Trump’s Civil Fraud Case Asks If Key Witness Committed Perjury

Justice Arthur F. Engoron, overseeing Donald J. Trump’s civil fraud case, has questioned if the key witness, Allen H. Weisselberg, committed perjury during Trump’s trial, as stated in a new court filing. Weisselberg, Trump’s longtime CFO, and Trump are defendants in the case brought by NY attorney general, Letitia James. The judge has asked both sides’ lawyers whether Weisselberg’s plea negotiations should affect the timing of his decision. Weisselberg, who has previously served time for an unrelated tax fraud case, is negotiating a potential agreement with the Manhattan district attorney’s office to plead guilty to perjury for his testimony. The trial’s outcome could bar Trump from running his family business and force him to pay a significant financial penalty.
