NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is planning to lay off 530 employees and 40 contractors due to a lack of secured funding for the 2024 fiscal year, according to an internal memo from Dr. Laurie Leshin. The layoffs will comprise 8% of JPL’s total workforce. Most employees were asked to work remotely, and those affected by the layoffs would be notified via email. Laid-off workers will continue to receive their base pay and benefits through their 60-day notice period.
