Jake Sullivan heads to Israel amid signs of Netanyahu rift

President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, is set to meet with top Israeli officials due to the White House’s request for Israel to be more precise in their operations against Hamas in Gaza. This comes amid a public discord between Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the civilian casualties in Gaza and differing views on the Palestinian future post-combat operations. Sullivan will hold “extremely serious conversations” on these matters, including the release of eight American hostages under Hamas control, and Israel’s Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, stating that the war in Gaza would persist for “more than several months”. Sullivan also discussed the maintenance of stability in the region during a visit to Saudi Arabia.
