Israel strikes in and around Gaza’s second-largest city Khan Younis in southern Gaza in new phase of the war

Israel has intensified its offensive in and around Gaza’s second-largest city, Khan Younis, despite pressure from the U.S. to prevent mass casualties. Residents of the area, who cannot leave due to Israel and Egypt refusing to accept any refugees, feel unsafe as the conflict with Hamas continues. The ongoing aerial and ground offensive has driven 75% of Gaza’s 2.3 million people from their homes. The Health Ministry in Gaza reports a death toll surpassing 15,890 people (70% women and children) with over 42,000 wounded. Although an exact number could not be provided, many are still trapped under rubble. Meanwhile, Israel justifies its actions by stating its goal is to dismantle Hamas’ military infrastructure and eradicate it from power.
