Iran says at least 84 were killed in blasts at a ceremony honoring slain general

Two bombs detonated during a commemoration event for slain Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in Kerman, Iran, resulting in at least 84 deaths and wounding at least 284 people. It was the deadliest militant attack in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The event marked the fourth anniversary of Soleimani’s death in a U.S. drone strike. The bombs detonated near Soleimani’s gravesite where large crowds had gathered. Iranian leaders have vowed to identify and punish those responsible for the attack, which remains unclaimed. The Iranian government has several adversaries, including militant groups, state actors, and exile groups, but no specific suspects have been named yet.
