Iran-linked cyberattacks threaten U.S. water, heath care and energy sectors : NPR

An Iran-linked hacking group named “CyberAv3ngers” is actively targeting U.S. facilities using an Israeli-made computer system, according to U.S. cybersecurity officials. The group has been infiltrating multiple U.S. facilities, predominantly used in water and wastewater systems, with a message opposing Israel. The compromised devices were reportedly publicly exposed to the internet with default passwords. The scale of the cyberattacks is yet to be determined, but it has been reported that less than 10 water facilities around the U.S. have been affected. These incidents reveal the vulnerability of the nation’s critical infrastructure to cyberattacks.
