Iowa principal who risked his life to protect students during a high school shooting has died
Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger, who was critically injured while protecting students during a school shooting in Iowa on January 4, has died. Marburger was injured during an attack in the school cafeteria, where a 17-year-old student opened fire, resulting in the death of an 11-year-old student and injuries to six other individuals. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds praised Marburger’s heroic actions and ordered all flags in Iowa to be flown at half-staff in his honor. The principal’s daughter remembered him as a “gentle giant” who would naturally put himself in harm’s way for his students.
