Inside the Maria Muñoz murder case: A look at the evidence

Maria Muñoz, a mother from Laredo, Texas, died unexpectedly, and a toxicology report revealed seven different surgical drugs in her system. The trial of Joel Pellot, her husband, presented evidence contradicting his account of Muñoz’s death. Crucial evidence included a needle catheter found at their home, a red mark on Muñoz’s right elbow crease, and a toxicology test that showed no traces of the drug Pellot claimed Muñoz had taken. Instead, it revealed the presence of seven other drugs typically used during surgery. Prosecutors used Muñoz’s journals to give insight into her life, and on March 30, 2023, a jury found Joel Pellot guilty of her murder.
