Inmate stabbed Derek Chauvin 22 times, charged with attempted murder, prosecutors say
Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, was stabbed 22 times in prison by inmate John Turscak. Turscak claimed to have assaulted Chauvin as a symbolic gesture towards the Black Lives Matter movement. Chauvin is currently serving a 21-year federal sentence for violating Floyd’s civil rights and a 22½-year state sentence for second-degree murder. He was transferred from a maximum-security Minnesota state prison to the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona, due to concerns about his safety in the general population.
