I-70 closed as vehicles struggle to climb steep hill west of Denver

Interstate 70 west of Denver was closed Friday night due to heavy snowfall causing trucks to lose traction and clog traffic. Snowplows and tow trucks also faced difficulty in reaching these stuck trucks, which led to the closure of the eastbound lanes from the bottom of Floyd Hill to its summit. The westbound lanes were closed due to safety concerns and the closure point was extended to Morrison Road. This issue also affected an adjacent section of U.S. 40 which is often used as a frontage road. The closure comes as low temperatures and snow move out of the high country and into the Front Range.
