Hunter Biden makes surprise appearance at House committee hearing to hold him in contempt

Hunter Biden, son of the president, has been called by House Republicans to testify in congressional committee meetings as part of their impeachment inquiry into his father. Republicans are recommending Biden be charged with contempt of Congress, insisting his testimony be given behind closed doors, while Biden and his legal team argue it should be public. Biden and his team claim that the accusations of illegal conduct by House Republicans are baseless and worry that his comments will be mischaracterized for partisan purposes if given in a closed-door deposition. House Democrats argue that there is no precedent for holding a private citizen in contempt of Congress who has offered to testify under oath in public. This comes as Biden prepares to plead not guilty in court on separate tax charges.
