Hunter Biden faces nine criminal charges in federal tax case

Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has been charged in a Justice Department investigation into his taxes. The nine-count charges include failure to file and pay taxes, evasion of assessment, and filing a false or fraudulent tax return. Prosecutors allege Hunter Biden engaged in a scheme to avoid paying at least $1.4 million in taxes from 2016 through 2019, including making false business deductions to reduce substantial tax liabilities. If convicted, he could face a maximum of 17 years in prison. This tax-related case is connected to Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings, such as his involvement with Ukrainian energy company Burisma and a Chinese private equity fund.
