Historic North Shore lodge destroyed in overnight fire

The historic Lutsen Resort lodge in Cook County was destroyed by a fire early Tuesday morning, with no reported injuries. The fire broke out just after midnight and despite the efforts of eight fire departments, the building was fully engulfed, leading to a total loss. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting investigations. Lutsen Resort, which dates back to 1885, is separate from the nearby Lutsen Mountains ski resort. The main lodge had previously burned down in 1949 and 1951.
